Understanding peptide interactions with lipid membranes
Interactions between peptides and lipid membranes are influenced by sequence, charge, hydrophobicity, peptide conformation and membrane composition. Computational studies can help investigate these factors and develop hypotheses about membrane association, insertion and structural perturbation.
This service is particularly relevant to membrane-active peptides, responsive peptide systems and peptide-enabled intracellular delivery.
The scientific challenge
Membrane interactions are complex and depend on both the peptide and the lipid environment. A peptide may associate with a membrane surface without inserting into the bilayer, while membrane deformation or leakage cannot always be inferred from binding alone.
Computational analysis needs to distinguish observable molecular behaviour from proposed biological mechanisms.
Modelling peptide interactions with selected lipid bilayers
Comparing peptide sequences and membrane compositions
Analysing peptide orientation, depth and insertion behaviour
Examining lipid contacts, hydrogen bonding and electrostatic interactions
Investigating peptide-induced changes in bilayer structure
Comparing responsive and non-responsive peptide designs
Relating computational observations to membrane-binding or leakage experiments

Compare: Assess differences between candidate peptides or membrane conditions and identify mechanisms that require experimental testing.
Membrane-active and antimicrobial peptides
pH-responsive or environment-sensitive peptides
Endosomal membrane interaction research
Peptide–liposome systems
Peptide functionalization of lipid-based carriers
Membrane-associated peptide biomaterials
Deliverables may include molecular system files, simulation analysis, peptide-position and orientation plots, interaction summaries, membrane-property comparisons and molecular visualizations.
The study will distinguish between membrane association, insertion and measurable bilayer perturbation. Claims about membrane disruption, endosomal escape or cellular delivery require appropriate supporting evidence.
